[SDCC] 'TRON 2' TEASER SHOWN!Yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con's Disney Panel, an incredibly mysterious clip was shown from what is apparently a sequel to the 1980's hit "Tron." The preview for the sequel, titled "TR2N," shows a blue and yellow rider racing against one another in the classic lightcycles from the original film. They don't cut corners in the same angular fashion as in the first installment—their technology has become more sophisticated as time has passed. Further evidence that the sequel takes place years after "Tron" came in the form of Jeff Bridges, shown in the clip as an older version of his character Kevin Flynn.
The preview ends with the Blue Rider being defeated by the Yellow Rider, and the Yellow Rider approaches menacingly with a disc in hand. The Blue Rider pleads: "It's only a game!" We then see the Yellow Rider flip open his visor—it's a 1980's era Jeff Bridges, this time much darker and threatening as he says: "Not anymore." He leans in to finish off the Blue Rider, and we cut to darkness.
Official details on the film are being kept under Fort Knox-like security, but Ain't It Cool News has a report with some nuggets of goodness:
• The footage shown is not from the film itself, but a promo created specially for Comic-Con;
• Joe Kosinski directed the footage, and is also attached to direct the film. He's responsible for several CG-animated commercials for "Gears of War" and "Halo 3;"
• The evil Jeff Bridges is not Jeff Bridges himself, but his character's program "Clu" from the original film.
Though the details are scarce, one thing is for sure: this was an awesome bit of footage that got the crowd going, and is sure to keep fans wanting more in the weeks and months to come.
